Andrew Zimmerman is an author, historian and professor of history at George Washington University. They received their M.Phil from the University of Cambridge, and their PhD from the University of California, San Diego. They are the author of a number of scholarly books and texts, including Alabama in Africa: Booker T. Washington, the German Empire, and the Globalization of the New South. They have received a Guggenheim Fellowship, and were most recently a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Their latest book, a new history of the Civil War focusing on immigrant radicals and slave rebels, is forthcoming from Knopf.
