Angela Zimmerman is an author, historian and professor of history at George Washington University. She received her M.Phil from the University of Cambridge, and her PhD from the University of California, San Diego. She is the author of a number of scholarly books and texts, including Alabama in Africa: Booker T. Washington, the German Empire, and the Globalization of the New South. She has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, and was most recently a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Her latest book, a new history of the Civil War focusing on immigrant radicals and slave rebels, is forthcoming from Knopf.
