She has particular interests in horror, film, and excavating forgotten aspects of history, which she has written about in outlets like The Guardian, Smithsonian, Mental Floss, Scary Monsters, and Atlas Obscura. Her eclectic obsessions have led to lecturing at the Library of Congress on the topic of gorillas in film, being interviewed in a BBC documentary about snails, and writing sea shanties for McSweeney’s.
