T.J. Stiles

T.J. Stiles is an award-winning historian and author. His most recent book, Custer’s Trials: A Life on the Frontier of a New America won the Pulitzer Prize for History. He is also the author of The First Tycoon: The Epic Life of Cornelius Vanderbilt, a New York Times bestseller which received the Pulitzer Prize for Biography and the National Book Award for Nonfiction, and Jesse James: Last Rebel of the Civil War, winner of the Ambassador Book Award and the Peter Seaborg Award for Civil War Scholarship. He is a current NEH Public Scholar and former Guggenheim Fellow, and has served on the faculty for the World Economic Forum and on the board of the Authors Guild, the Organization of American Historians, and the Society of American Historians. He lives in Berkeley, California with his wife and children, where he is working on a new biography of Theodore Roosevelt.
