Monica Liaw is an illustrator, designer, and can tell stories in five languages. She has a BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design, and received her Masters in Illustration at the Elisava School of Design and Engineering in Barcelona. Monica was born in Taiwan, and currently moves between Taiwan, Japan and parts of Europe. She has most recently completed illustrations for a series of fairytales published in China by Guangxi Normal University Press, and has books forthcoming from Motie and Post Wave Publishing. Monica’s inspirations come from all over: from traditional Japanese music, dancers, to old Italian uncles and dogs she meets on her travels. When not making art, she can be found playing piano, singing, or dancing. She uses mixed media to create her illustrations, combining watercolor, pastel, collage and digital tools.
